ARCHIVAL COLLECTIONS AT HOWLAND FARM MUSEUM

FOUND ARTIFACTS

Hundreds of artifacts and objects have been discovered laying on the ground surface in an area behind the Main House that was clearly a household dump location. Over time, fragments have found their way into the stream bed and banks, and some items have even been collected from the ditch along perpendicular Brick Church Road, carried there by rushing water!

It is a priority for Howland Farm Museum to contact local universities for the purpose of organizing an archaeological dig to properly excavate any objects below the surface!!

Currently, these artifacts are grouped into like categories for display and storage. However, Howland Farm Museum would like to purchase uniform shelving with protective glass front doors, to better display and protect them. Some of the monies raised at the 2022 Fundraiser Party are intended for this goal!

A future and ongoing project for interns is to work on the cataloging and research of individual or groups of items in the collections.
